In a hybrid operating room, diagnostic assessment and therapy or coronary angiography and open heart surgery are carried out at one and the same operating table. The combination of a completely equipped cardiovascular operating room allowing free access to the patient on all sides and a full strength cardiological X-ray unit with three-dimensional imaging permits entirely new therapy options.
Simultaneous diagnostics and therapy
"The beneficiaries of this technological progress are in particular patients at high risk who would otherwise have to forego an operation since a thoracic aperture would have been too severe an intervention”, Dr. Jürgen Ennker, Medical Director of the Heart Center, has commented regarding this innovation.
Risky transportation of the patient is no longer necessary because cardiosurgical emergencies can be diagnosed and treated simultaneously in the hybrid operating room without losing time. The heart surgeon, anesthetist, radiologist, cardiologist and vascular surgeon examine the patient and take action simultaneously, if necessary. A further advantage is immediate post-operative therapy control beyond echocardiography.
The MediClin Heart Center Lahr/Baden is in the process of further strengthening its position as one of the leading heart hospitals in Germany and is thus in the company of the Heart Centers in Munich and Berlin, the University Hospital in Munich and the hospitals in Cologne and Essen, where diagnostics and therapy are also provided in a hybrid operating room.
